Does the benefit cap apply to you?

The cap is a ceiling, not a benefit. Pick where you live and who is in the household. One exemption, including PIP or enough earnings, usually switches it off for everyone.

How the deduction actually lands: benefit cap explained. Housing costs after a cap: housing help. What PIP pays: PIP rates.

Common questions

What is the benefit cap in 2026/27?+

For couples and single parents it is £2,110.25 a month in Greater London and £1,835.00 outside. For a single adult without children it is £1,413.92 and £1,229.42. The annual figures have not changed since 2023.

Who is exempt from the benefit cap?+

Usually anyone in the household on PIP, DLA, Attendance Allowance, Carer's Allowance, or the UC health (LCWRA) or carer element. Earning £881 or more a month after tax and NI as a household also switches it off. Pension-age households are outside it.

Does this tell me what DWP will pay me?+

No. It shows the published ceiling and the common exemptions. Your statement is the decision. For a full household check use Turn2us or entitledto, or speak to Citizens Advice.
