About UK Benefits Guide

The UK benefits system is genuinely complicated, and official guidance often reads like it was written for caseworkers, not the people actually navigating it. A lot of what fills the gap online is trying to sell debt consolidation loans or comparison products to people who are already financially stretched.

UK Benefits Guide exists to explain how things actually work in plain English: how Universal Credit is calculated, who qualifies for council tax support, what PIP actually assesses, and what free childcare you might be entitled to. No jargon left unexplained, and nothing written to steer you towards a product.

How we write

Guides are written for UK claimants and checked against GOV.UK and DWP pages. Rates change each April. Last reviewed August 2026. We do not take payment to recommend a loan, comparison site, or paid form-filling service.

What this site is not

This is general information, not a benefits calculator and not personalised advice — eligibility depends on your own circumstances in ways a general guide cannot capture. For a personalised check, free independent calculators like Turn2us and entitledto, or your local Citizens Advice, are more reliable than any article.
